This process ensures that all components, including the printer engine, laminator module (if attached), and internal memory, are completely reset.

  1. Stop all print jobs: Ensure no jobs are actively being sent from the computer to the printer.
  2. Turn the power OFF: Locate the main power switch, usually on the back or side of the printer, and switch it to the OFF (0) position.
  3. Unplug the power cord: Disconnect the main power cable from the back of the printer and/or the wall outlet. This is a critical step to ensure a hard reset of the internal electronics.

Note: If a laminator module is attached, it should also be powered off and disconnected if it has a separate power source, or the main printer power cycle will shut it down.

  1. Wait 30 seconds: After that allow the printer to remain completely unpowered for at least 30 seconds. This ensures any residual electrical charge (often called “flea power”) is fully dissipated from the components.

  2. Reconnect the power cord: Plug the main power cable back into the printer and the wall outlet.

  3. Turn the power ON: Switch the main power switch back to the ON (I) position.

The printer will now go through its start-up routine, which includes initializing the printhead, sensors, and any attached modules. This process effectively reboots the device.

To reboot the HID FARGO HDP6600 printer, frequently listed as the first step for various HDP6600 errors, including:

  • Card Jams: The printer often attempts to clear a jam automatically during a power cycle.

  • Film/Ribbon Sensor Errors (e.g., 505/506): A hard reset can sometimes clear these errors, especially if they are intermittent.

  • Start-up or Unrecoverable Errors: The printer will attempt to reset itself to a known good state.

  • Communication Failures: Restarting both the printer and the host computer can resolve issues where the computer cannot “find” the printer.
