RFID Card Types
The RFID card types are:
- Low Frequency operates at 125 kHz
- High Frequency operates at 13.56 kHz
- Ultra-High Frequency operates at 968 kHz
These cards are also categorized based on their characteristics, including data capacity and security, which results in classifications such as ID cards (low-cost, read-only) and IC cards (high-cost, read-write, encrypted).
MHz, offers a longer read range than LF and HF, but is generally more expensive. It is cost-effective for large-scale, long-distance reading needs.
- Passive RFID cards: Powered by the electromagnetic field of the RFID reader. They are the most common type and are available in LF, HF, and UHF frequencies.
- Active RFID cards: Contain their own battery to broadcast signals. This allows for a much longer read range and is used for applications requiring real-time tracking over long distances.
By features
- ID cards: A type of LF card that has a fixed, pre-programmed number and simple, read-only, and easy to copy.
- IC cards: These are HF card which can be reprogrammed and encrypted, more secure and harder to copy.
- Other forms: RFID technology is also found in other formats beyond the standard card, such as wristbands, key fobs, and mobile credentials (phone-based access).
